History

On April 13, 1964, the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was officially chartered as the 76th alumnae chapter. Fifty-two members of the former Fairlington-Parkfairfax Club and Northern Virginia Club met at the home of Mrs. Jack High to sign the charter and create this new chapter. These former clubs have a history that goes back to the late 1940’s. Of the fifty-two original members, one of these members, Mrs. Florence Ashby, is still active in the Northern Virginia/Suburban Maryland Alumnae Chapters.

Over the years, the chapter has participated in a number of philanthropic events and member activities. These activities include Poinsettia sales, volunteering with the Fairfax County Women’s Shelter and Fairfax CASA, and Race for the Cure. The NOVA Theta chapter is also involved with the Northern Virginia Panhellenic Association. Each year, Thetas volunteer time in December to assist with a gift wrapping program to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
